The DP24 Deep Notch Repair Kit (Patent Pending) restores the strength of Floor Joists resulting from very deep notch cuts from the bottom of the Joist up. The DP24 has been tested and found suitable for tension repairs where the notch cut is from the bottom of the joist up. The DP24 works for notches up to 6" wide. Please download the engineering report for additional details. The DP Series can be used in conjunction with our other joist repair kits to maximize strength and "fall" of drain lines where a slop is required for proper drainage, and of course in situations where joist damage is severe. Deeply cut floor joists which leave only a small section of wood for support are a difficult problem to solve. The DP24 provides the solution with heavy duty steel and structural fasteners that more than make up for the lost support.
The DP24 will repair a notch up to 6" wide. If the notch you need to repair is wider, check out the DP30 for notches up to 12" wide

- 32) Simpson 1/4" hex head structural lag style screws
- 1) 3/8" nut driver (1 per Order)

What size notch is allowed in a joist with and without a joist repair plate?

What building code says about notches in floor joists (without a reinforcer)
- Notches are only allowed in the first 1/3 from each end of the Joist.
- Notch depth cannot exceed 1/6th of the depth of the Joist.
- Notch width cannot exceed 1/3rd of the depth of the Joist.

With a Notch Repair Plate
- Notches can be placed anywhere along the length of the Joist up to 12" from supporting members.
- Notch can be up to 3" deep on a 2x10 or 12.
- Notch width can be up to 5" wide.
