The Brick Veneer Deck Ledger Bracket fastens to rim or band joists, extending 5" out from connection, past the brick veneer to provide solid support for deck members. Brick Veneer Ledger Brackets are suitable for retrofit or new construction and can hold up to 3250 lbs per bracket (see spacing chart below), putting the load on structural members rather than brick veneer, eliminating the need for piers and posts. The result is reduced materials and labor, faster construction, and improved aesthetics. For new construction, simply install the bracket on the rim joist and brick around the bracket extension. For retrofits, cut access openings in the brick to attach bracket to rim joists.
2012 IRC Code: Section R507.2.2 of the 2012 IRC states, "Deck ledger connections not conforming to Table R507.2 shall be designed in accordance with accepted engineering practice."

As heavy as brick is, it considered non-loading bearing veneer, and by code prohibited from being used for load bearing. Complicating matters further, fastening ledgers through brick veneer, tightening from the ledger through the brick veneer and air gap to the structure behind it will compromise the brick veneer itself. so when you want to attach decks to brick walls, we highly recommend the use of a Brick Veneer Ledger Bracket. Securing the deck to a brick house in this way is simpler because you don't need piers, and will look better because there are no columns.
